Russell was born in Upper Stoke in Coventry and lived there for the first 16 years of his life. His parents moved to Coventry in the 1960s. He has lived in Coventry all his life, apart from three years in Binley Woods which is just inside Warwickshire. He was educated at Wyken Croft Primary School and Caludon Castle Comprehensive School. Russell works in Coventry for Coventry Building Society. He was first elected to Coventry Council in 2003 in the marginal ward of Upper Stoke, having lost the previous year by 11 votes. In 2007 he lost his seat by just three votes, but won it back in 2008 with a majority of 188. Russell stood for Parliament in the 2005 General Election, increasing the Liberal Democrat vote by 2000 in Coventry North East constituency and almost pushing the Conservatives into third place. |
