Russell Field To Challenge Bob Ainsworth At General Election

Cllr Russell Field
Cllr Russell Field will stand for Parliament in Coventry North East

Coventry needs a champion, not a yes-man.

On Wednesday night Cllr Russell Field was selected as the Liberal Democrats' candidate to unseat Defence Secretary Bob Ainsworth MP at the forthcoming General Election. Russell is currently the Councillor for Upper Stoke and was first elected to the council in May 2003. When asked why he had decided to stand, Cllr Field, who lives in the constituency, replied:

"I think that the job of MP is a very serious one and our existing MP, Bob Ainsworth, hasn't been seeing it as such. Bob has been seen to claim every penny he can, including £400 a month for food, nobody on his massive salary needs to claim that. As well as taking the taxpayer for every penny he can, he is an establishment yes-man, failing to stand up to Walsgrave Hospital trust over the suspension of Dr Mattu and their car parking charges. His voting record in Parliament shows he is more concerned about the views of his party bosses than his constituents. Coventry needs a champion, not a yes-man."

Councillor Field has been at the forefront of the following campaigns; abolition of Hospital Car Parking Fees, creating a more sensible dividing line for police stations within Upper Stoke, saving the Coventry North Park and Ride and opposing building on the Greenbelt in Coventry.
