Ignoring their own manefesto
I see that Cllr Ruane (Henley) is becoming quite a regular contributor to the letters page these days. However, I’m sure this is more to do with the fact that he is up for election next year rather than anything else because some of the absolute drivel he has been spouting certainly leaves a lot to be desired and again is very selective in it’s nature. He says that at the last general election the Lib Dem’s had argued that if elected a Lib Dem Government would scrap tuition fees but in government they increased them. I would hope that the councillor is aware that a Lib Dem government wasn’t actually elected and has had to make some alterations to their priorities after finding out what a mess this country had been left in by the last Labour governments. However, this is not the first time this councillor or his colleagues have come out with this sort of selective clap-trap so I will remind him again. The Labour Party of which I was then a member fought the 1997 General Election promising to ensure that Tuition Fees would not be brought in at all. That government had a massive majority but still chose to ignore their own Manifesto promises and brought in tuition fees meaning that many many lower paid families were unable to send their children to university and those that did are now having to pay back the student loans inflicted upon them by this councillor’s own Labour party.
Thanks
